We know Nashville will prevail and will rebuild our historic Second Avenue North and the many properties that have been damaged. Our hearts go out to all of the residents and business owners affected, particularly small businesses that have been severely impacted by the pandemic.

Historic Downtown Recovery Resources for Affected Businesses and Employees

JOB RESOURCES

(SHORT-TERM, LONG-TERM, UPSKILLING, RESKILLING)

Jobs4TN – anyone seeking employment or training resources should be registered for Jobs4TN. This is the portal for Unemployment Insurance, job search resources, training resources and more. Short-term credentials like Google IT Certification and others are offered on Coursera and covered by WIOA for those who qualify.

Tennessee Talent Exchange – powered by Jobs4TN, this resource helps people connect to jobs in skills-adjacent industries. Pathways like hospitality, retail and logistics share some of the same core competencies, and with a small amount of upskilling or reskilling, people can move into these other industries and open positions. People must register for Jobs4TN to register for this.

Goodwill Career Solutions – Goodwill’s Career Solutions Center at 937 Herman St. in Nashville provides free in-person training programs and career services, including referrals and placement assistance with numerous employers who are hiring. Many services are also available virtually or by phone. The center also regularly holds in-person and virtual job fairs. Training program subjects range from resume-writing and job readiness to basic computer, construction, forklift, custodial, call center and IT support. More details can be found at www.giveit2goodwill.org or by calling 615-742-4151.

Urban League of Middle TN –
Tech Connect offering IT certification tracks through Coursera and a partnership with Jobs4TN.

The Nashville Talent Hub, housed at the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, provides free navigation services for people who want to upskill or reskill through Nashville Reconnect. Anyone interested in talking about how to get connected to training and education programs can complete this intake form and they will be connected to a Navigator in their area. Navigators can also connect people to resources and wraparound services to help them complete training programs (including WIOA, SNAP, SNAP E&T, TANF, Reconnect).

Metro Action Commission Opportunity Youth Re-Engagement Hubs – created for people ages 16-24, offering resources related to employability, education, training and supportive services. Interested people can text Engage2020 to 615-484-848 and someone will be in touch. Hubs are located at Martha O’Bryan and Monroe Harding.

UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

Business Mangers/Owners – Chris Wilson, Leah Whitt and Mark Gorman are project managers with the State of Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. They can assist business managers and/or owners to register for Employer Filed Partial Claims. Employer Filed Partial Claims are claims in which the employer submits information to create a claim for the employee through a file, and in doing so approves the separation. At that point, the employee is in the system and must certify each week they are unemployed or partially unemployed making less than their weekly benefit amount. The other option they can assist with is Mass Lay-Off lists that allow for approval through the system when an employee files on their own. To begin the process or get additional information, contact Chris, Leah or Mark:

Chris Wilson
Chris.Wilson@tn.gov

Leah Whitt
Leah.Whitt@tn.gov

Mark Gorman
Mark.Gorman@tn.gov

With their assistance the process should be quicker and smoother in most circumstances. Each employee’s claim can have different variables that can create issues to work through, but for the most part, these processes will make it much easier on everyone involved.

Individuals – For individuals needing to file for Unemployment Benefits, the most efficient way to file an unemployment claim is to go to
Jobs4TN.gov. Once registered, the status of benefits claim can be found on the individual’s dashboard at Jobs4TN.gov.
